Today we are reading about Paul's spiritual authority, a warning against false teachers; Paul's suffering; the thorn in his flesh; and his plans to visit Corinth. Today's message focuses on the importance of seeking God through suffering. Jesus is the strength that we need to endure all of our suffering.
Often when we are suffering we are inclined to think that no one can understand what we are going through. One may be facing the death of a loved one, sickness, addiction, terminal cancer or disease, divorce, unemployment, or eviction. During intense suffering such as these we tend to feel a sense of loneliness that fills our plagues our thoughts. For some it means the loss of one with whom to share life's joys and even share the discoveries we have as we read our Bible.
Paul often faced much suffering from hostile enemies of Christ and occasionally from believers as well. He mentiones some of those sufferings, "Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches." (II Corinthians 11:24-28). After his conversion, Paul lived with only one purpose, to preach the Gopel to the lost.
We too have the high calling to reach the lost with the Gospel, to reach out in love to all people with the Good News of eternal life. Surely everyone should have the opportunity of hearing, at least once, that at death they are destined to either eternal death in the lake of fire or eternal life in heaven. Someone may be very likable and a good citizen, but the dividing line between the saved and the lost is dependent on one fact. Have they repented of their sins and received Jesus as Savior and Lord of their lives.
Paul prayed three times to remove the thorn from his flesh, "And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (12:7-9). The thorn represented his suffering and although God didn't answer his prayer as he expected He did tell him that His grace is enough, through our weaknesses we become stronger and Christ gives us the strength to endure all suffering. God answers all prayers according to our needs and we are to glory God through all of our suffering. Jesus is with us and although we do not understand it at the time we must realize that God is in control. It is up to us to make a decision whether or not to be held capitive to our suffering or to release it over to God and let Him comfort and set us free.
One thing I would like to point out is that we do not always suffer due to sin, often we suffer in order to grow a stronger relationship with God. Take Job for instance, this was a godly man who lost everything he had, children, health, and fortune. The devil thought that Job would cave and curse God if he lost all that he had. Instead he praised God and as he did he became stronger and overcame all his suffering which resulted in him being blessed even more than before. God never puts anything before us that we can not handle and all we have to remember is that Jesus is suffering with us and will give us the strength to overcome every bit of it.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
You reign over all the earth and You also reign in my heart! What an awesome blessing this truth brings to me today. As I consider that it is not by my might, nor by my power, but by the Spirit of the Lord that my personal mountains are removed. Jesus, I know that many of the mountains I face are not just blown away by a simple prayer of faith, but these mountains are often the very essence of how You work through my life to reveal Your faithfulness and Your power in the midst of my struggles. You develop godly character as I am challenged to remain steadfast and faithful in my Christian walk. You make my feet like hind’s feet and You make me to walk upon high places. Help me to keep my gaze continually upward during the climb so that I see You reigning on Your throne as I bring You glory and honor! In your mighty name, Jesus I pray......Amen.

Today we are reading about living by faith; the ministry of reconciliation; associating with non believers; Paul's ministry; and the grace of giving. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that all who accept Jesus are one with Him, He lives in us and we in Him. We need to be careful of what we do to our physical bodies for what ever we do to ourselves we are doing to Christ.
No one can deny that in this day and age we are living in a world full of deception and compromise. Much too often, Christian's are tempted to search for satisfaction through what the world has to offer. To provide answers to this issue, Paul warns us not to associate with non believers. He also asked five very important questions for us to consider before taking that leap into surrounding ourselves with people and things that make us compromise our way of living.
1,2. What association and connection do we have with non believers? &qu ot;Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" (II Corinthians 6:14). When we associate ourselves with non believers we are easily tempted to follow them, this includes family members. We might love our family, but we can not allow oursevles to be drawn back into their way of living. Therefore we must keep our distance, pray for them, be respectful, but do not allow yourself to associate with them any more than you have to.
3,4. What peace do we have with non believers? "And what concord (harmony) hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel (nonbeliever)?" (6:15). Being in harmony with non believers is just as if Jesus were in harmony with the devil. We obiviously have different beliefs than those who live for the world therefore, we will never find peace.
5. What agreement do we as Temples of God have with idols? "And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." (6: 16). We are Temples of God and Christ lives in us, whatever we do to ourselves we do in the presence of Christ. Idols are anything that takes us away from living godly and or having a right relationship with Him. Therefore, we must seperate ourselves from any person or thing that may defile us.
The true source of defilement o f the body is self gratification, this includes, fornication, lust, and putting foreign things into our bodies. It is important to remember that believers and unbelievers have different masters and if we stay around them long enough we end up falling right into their temptations. Paul urges us to stay away from any person or thing that will defile us, but also lets us know that He will be with us. "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (6:17-18).

Today we will read about forgiveness for those who repent; the Lordship of Christ; and suffering. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that you are filled with the most precious treasure one can have, that is Jesus Christ. We are all God's treasure and more precious to Him than any material thing could ever be.
The book of II Corinthians is the 8th book and 2nd epistle of the New Testament and contains 13 chapters. The author of the epistle is Paul and it was written to the believers at Corinth. The purpose of epistle was to reestablish his apostolic authority, but it also deals with additional important issues. What we are to learn from the epistle is that human weakness provides opportunity for manifestation of the power of God.
Not every Christian is called to be an evangelist or pastor that speaks before a crowd, but we are all called to be a part of the Body of Christ. As part of the Body of Christ we may be used to love and comfort those in need. God uses His servants to express His lovingkindness and communicate the indwelling life of Christ to others. "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation." (II Corinthains 1:3-7). We overcome our suffering by aiding others in theirs. It is those who are willing to identify with Christ and His disciples that experience His suffering and can, in turn, express the comfort of the Holy Spirit to others who are suffering or are depressed.
The body of a Christian is compared to an ordinary clay pot. Clay pots have very little value on thier own, but their essential worth depends on what they contain. If they are left empty they have no value or purpose for that matter. However, if they are filled with precious treasure or gems their value increases dramatically. The body of a Christian contains the most precious treasue one could have, that treasure is Jesus Christ. "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body." (4:6-10).
All who accept Jesus into their lives are filled with Christ and are precious treasures to God. Therefore it is our responsibilty to teach others the Gospel and to be an example for those who are weaker than us.
Being accountable to God also includes how we respond to experiences common to all people, however  ;children of God are enabled to handle trials and suffering differently than those of the world. Since the Holy Spirit indwells in us we are able to face trials and suffering with the confidence that our Lord is lovingly working out what is best for our eternal good.
Trials and troubles, in whatever form, are necessary for spiritual growth; without them, we would not exercise our faith or develop spiritual insight and strength. Just as it was necessary for Jesus to die, we too must die to self-love and become willing partakers of His sufferings. "For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you. We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God." (4:11-15).
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
There is much that we can learn from our temporal problems here on earth that better prepares us for eternity. As we work through these troubles enable us to have the mind of Christ so that attitudes reflecting the fruit of the Spirit become a spontaneous response to the difficulties that challenge us daily. Just as light, soil, air and moisture are requirements for growth in vegetation so must faith, prayer, self-denial and persistence in obeying God’s Holy Word be requirements for growth in our Christian walk. Help us not to become so caught up in viewing our daily challenges from an earthly perspective that we don’t look for the deeper, spiritual, and eternal meaning that You have to teach us in all things. In Jesus' name........Amen.

Today we will read about spiritual gifts; the resurrection of Christ; and a collection for the Jerusalem saints. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we need to daily remove ourselves from any corruption that we have encoutered throughout the day.
Paul reminds us of the triumphant fact that Christ died for our sins, was buried, then rose three days later. "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). For the Christian, death is not the end of life, but only the beginning of a magnificent, eternal future with our wonderful Lord.
To the Christian, who out of necessity, must spend much of his time with people of the world Paul warns us not to be decieved and fall into their standards. "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame." (15:33-34). The influences of worldly associations and the temptations that follow can gradually bring a believer to live in the world rather than for God. The most important thing you can do for yourself is each night pray to God and ask Him to reveal any corruptedness that you might have encountered throughout the day.
Some Christians today get so entangled with what the world has to offer that they never realize that they completely passed over the teachings of the New Testament way of living. People are learning from others, who do not live godly, what it means to be a Christian rather than learning the truth by reading the Bible. There is so much compromise everywhere, but Scripture leaves no room for compromise. Paul concluded his glorious thoughts on the return of the Lord Jesus, "The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." (15:56-58).
Christians can have the utmost confidence knowing that Christ lives in us. Our threefold purpose for living is:
1: To become the person that God planned for us to be.
2: That we may accomplish His will for us on earth.
3: To be prepared for the triumphant splendor of heaven that awaits us.

Dear God,
You gave first and foremost as you selflessly gave of Yourself through the person of Jesus Christ. Your gift of grace exceeds human description, for the far-reaching effects in our lives is truly indescribable. It’s too wonderful for words, but it brings unspeakable joy and glorious hope that makes our spiritual journey so worthwhile. We receive Your indescribable gift that brings forgiveness for our sins and reserves for us a home in heaven for all eternity. In Jesus' name.......Amen.

Today we will read about the guidelines for worship; the Lord's Supper; and the greatest gift of all, charity (love). Today's message focuses on the importance of having charity for one another.
It may seem surprising to the world, but from God's point of view it is more important to be known for one's loving kindness, throughtfulness, and consideration than being a famous evangelist or teacher. Paul expressed the importance of charity for one another and no matter how successful you are at teaching God's Word if you are not kind toward one another we do not get very farin life. "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." (I Corinthians 13:1-3).
It is also more important to love, as God loves, than for being the most prominent prophetic speaker in the world. Paul went on to reveal this God-given ability to love. "Charity (love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things." (13:4-7). This God kind of love is very parient, never envious, or boastful, it does not brag to others or is rude to people. Neither is it self seeking, quick to take offence, or resentful.
Charity has a way of making us more concerned for the feelings and rights of others and less occupied with our own. The love of God causes us to stop trying to always grab the best for ourselves or taking advantage of others.
Charity also has a way of keeping us from listening to people who are anxious to pass on the latest gossip about the faults and failure of others. We must all remember that love bears and endures all things without getting frustrated or angry. Charity never fails regardless of whether it is for friends, difficult people, or strangers.

Dear God,
We are thankful for Your great compassion and enduring patience; that You do not treat us as our sins deserve but with Your never-ending mercy. From everlasting to everlasting Your love is with those who walk with You, who keep Your covenant and obey Your precepts. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Today we will read about the condemntion of fornication and others sins, the guidelines for marriage; and the conduct of Christian. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we need to be careful who we get around. We as Christian's are washed of our past sins and if we continue to hang around those who live in sin we will never have God's Best.
Comforts, pleasures, cares, and even responsibilities of life can occupy our time, leaving little effort for eternal values. It was reported to Paul that one member of the church in Corinth was committing fornication or adultery with his father's wife, which seems to mean that he had an ongoing sexual relationship with his stepmother. Whether his father was still alive is not indicated, but Paul cautioned the church to immediately exclude themselves with the offending member. "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.........I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person." (I Corinthians 5:1-2, 9-13).
What should be of most consideration is how our lives affect our relationship with God. Equally important is how they affect our church, families, and friends. When leaders of a church body allow obvious ongoing sin among its members, it encourages a sinner to excuse his own sin and to continue to influence others to follow his immoral lifestyle. If we believe what God has said in His Word about sin, we know that there is accountability for it. "Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (6:7-11).
The Book of I Corinthians was written to believers urging them to settle for nothing less than getting right with God. It is a message to all who long to be free from a self-serving life. Paul reminds us that before we accepted Jesus into our lives we too lived in sin, but our sins were washed away. However, by continuing to hang around those who continue to live in sin all we are doing is letting that wickedness corrupt us, keep us from experiencing God's Best for our lives. We need to be very careful of the people we associate with, even family members. That is not to say that we are to disrespect them, but we can not allow them to influence us and must keep our distance with them. The devil will use anyone unknowingly to keep us from developing a close relationship with God. It is up to us to learn of the ways in which people can corrupt us. Each night we need to ask God to reveal and free us from any wickness that we may have encountered. Getting right with God will destroy any attempt from the devil.

Dear God,
We are confronted with deception on many fronts every day, so much so, that we can be deceived without even realizing it. Would You help us to watch out and be on our guard so that we are not deceived by man’s words, no matter how convincing they are, how charming their personality, or how cunning their craft. Help us not to fall for Satan’s deceptive tactics that have brought down believers throughout the church age. We seek You for strength and discipline. We search the Scriptures for discernment and the true revelation that we are saved by the blood of You Son, Jesus. In Jesus' name.......Amen.

Today we will read about Grace and faithfulness of God; the problems at Corinth; Christians, represented as the temples of God; and the authority of the apostles. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we are all One Body of Christ and we should not be divided by how we were taught and or teach the lost. As long as we are telling the truth there should be no divison among believers.
The book of I Corinthians is the 7th book, also known as the 2nd epistle (letter) of the New Testament and contains 16 chapters. The author of the epistle is Paul and it was written to the believers of Corinth. The purpose of the epistle was to answer questions and concerns that were addressed by the Corinthians. What we are to learn from the book is the love is the greatest spiritual key to effective Christian life and ministry.
Paul confronted the philosophical Greeks of Corinth, "Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ." (I Corinthians 1:1-3).
He presented the message of his Redeemer in hopes that he would not be rejected as he was in Athens (Acts 17). "I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord." (1:4-9).
Now, the church at Corinth was divided over who was the most spiritual leader. Paul wanted them to realize that all ministers were just servants through whom they believed. "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." (1:10-17). We are not competitors, but all servants of God, we just have different title in which to serve Him. God is no respector of persons as long as we are serving Him we are all the same.

Our foremost concern should be that we become perfectly joined as the one body of Christ that He intends for us to be. All of us need each other, so that together we can fulfill the Lord's will in the Body of Christ through our prayers, tithes, gifts, talents, and witnessing to others. No one should feel either indispensable or inadequate, for all are one in Christ. "Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." (3:8-11).
It takes every Christian to make up the Body of Christ, which is the Church, and, without exception, everyone is needed. This leaves no room for envying another person's ability or usefulness, nor for being puffed up with pride as if we had done everything  ;ourselves. Both jealousy and pride dishonor Christ and destroy the spirit of unity. Such differences are often ignored because jealousy and pride are not recognized as the real problem. It is important to recognize that Paul was not expecting uniformity of views, but oneness of Spirit in the midst of differences. At times it is better to agree to disagree, we may not always see eye to eye in how we are taught, but the main focus is to join together as one Body of Christ teaching the Gospel to the lost.

Today we are reading about Isreal still needing to be saved; and the duties of a Christian in personal life, church, s ociety, and in government. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we all have special abilites in which God wants us to serve Him. Reading God's Word daily will enable us to know the Truth and understand what it is that He wants us to do for Him.
As we have been learning throughout this book that when we become a Christian we receive a new nature, the nature of God. Many believers actually set apart their time, talents, and abilities serving God. However, they are not seeing any changes in their lives and do not understand why their efforts are so fruitless. Others have even foresaken the world, but seem unmotivated and useless when an oppurtunity arises to serve. These people are an example of Isreal who had faith in God to leave Egypt, but rebelled and refused to enter the promised land on His terms. Paul begs us, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:1-2).
Paul reminds us that we all all memebers of one body in Christ and have been given special gifts in which to serve God, "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth (encourages), on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness." (12:3-8). Just as we all possess different abilites to work different jobs, God has given us different abilites in which to work for Him. Do not be discouraged He knows our abilities and will bless us for using them, we just have to keep going in faith knowing that He is with us.
We should read through the Bible with a desire to do the will of God. As we read His Word it becomes our spiritual food and our source of strength and spiritual insight to accomplish His will. Just as physical food is assimilated into our bodies to provide good health and physical strength, so the indwelling Holy Spirit strengthens our spiritual lives through His Word that we might be healthy in our spiritual lives.
The Holy Spirit can guide you in all truth, however, He will not guide us in into all truth if we neglect to read all of His Word, from the book of Genesis to Revelation it is essential to read every book and chapter. There are some things in the Bible that we may not understand, but it is all there for a reason and in time we learn what that is. Just like God knows what abilites we can handle He also knows how much of the Bible we can handle as we read His Words daily. You can not read a chapter twice and get the same understanding, God will reveal something new each time you read it. That is why it is important to keep reading, the times when we really do not feel like it are the times when we need to most. The Word of God enlightens us, then empowers us to overcome our former way of life. When we Know the Truth, the Truth shall set us free

Dear God,
Help me to remain faithful to You and your calling upon my life. Strengthen and grow my faith as I daily search Your Scriptures and apply their truths to my spiritual walk. As I go through the trials and experiences of my earthly journey would You fix my eyes and my ever-wandering heart upon Jesus. When the howling winds and forceful storms of this life attempt to shipwreck my faith may they instead prove my faith to be more than sufficient to withstand the continual assaults from the enemy. Because I take refuge in Jesus my spiritual foundation is firm, always dependable, and leads me to the truth and glorious victory. In Jesus name.......Amen.

Today we will read about the law of life in the Spirit; current suffering versus future glory; Isreal's failure due to unbelief; and mercy for the Jew and Gentile. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that if we want to walk in the Spirit we need to take the right steps to do it.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and the Lord of our lives we are in a sense dead to our flesh and alive in the spirit. All the wordly desires that we once have slowly become a thing of the past. This happens because once we call on Jesus we recieve the spiritual nature of God through the Holy Spirit indwelling in us which gives us the desire to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh. Paul explains, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." (Romans 8:1-5). Like Paul, we no longer have to be ruled by our fleshly nature and are saved from condemnation.
When the believer accepts his own powerlessness and submits to the Holy Spirit, then will the likeness of Christ become a reality. "If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." (8:31b-37).
True acceptance of Jesus results in a change of heart and lifestyle. This change should manifest in itself as we become eager to learn more, get involved in a local church, and sharing the Gospel with others. Sadly, some people join a church, attend worship services, give generously, and assume that their good works are sufficient for entrance into heaven. However, God is more concerned first with what we are, then with what we do for Him. "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth..........For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."(10:2-4,11-13).
Do not worry about whether or not you are doing the right things for God. Live in faith knowing that the care of your spiritual life is in the hands of the Holy Spirit, but He must have your cooperation. You can not live for the world and for God, you must take the steps needed to learn and listen for what God is telling you. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (10:17). Thus, with the loving presence of Christ in you, the living likeness of Christ will be seen through you.

Dear God,
As Your children we need to regularly examine our hearts to see if there are things, pursuits, or attitudes that are drawing us away from Your heart and thrusting us once again into the mindset of the world. Our heart’s examinations are not intended to condemn us, but to refresh our spirit and remind us of our godly heritage. Father, since You know our hearts more than we do ourselves, reveal to us that which helps and that which hinders our Christian walk. As we walk in obedience to You we’re grateful for the peace and rest we receive in knowing that You do not condemn us, but deliver mercy to help us in our time of need. You do not stand over us in judgment, but You walk alongside us assuring us of Your unwavering love and unending mercy that will see us through on this side of the journey. In jesus' name......Amen.

Today we are reading about Salvation; righteousness through Jesus Christ; sin through Adam; Christian's saved by grace and not the Law; an explaination on baptism. Today's message focuses on the importance of Salvation. Salvation is a gift from God and no matter who tries to tell you otherwise we can not work our way to heaven nor can that gift be taken away from us.
The more we learn about the horrible suffering and death of Jesus the more we understand the glory and power of His resurrection. Some believers are conscious of Christ's death on the cross for their sins and even have accepted Him, but truly do not know what it means to be free forever or that we do not have to work in order to keep our salvation.
Paul explains that we are saved, not by what we do for the church or others, but through the gift of grace by Jesus. And no matter what we have done or will do nothing can take that gift from us. "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification." (Romans 5:12-16). Sadly, we are born into sin, this is the gift handed down to us from Adam when he sinned by eating the forbidden fruit. We actually recieve&nbs p;sins that were passed over to us from years ago by ancestors we never knew. What is even more sadder is that we actually pay dearly for that gift, the payment is death. Imagine carrying the burden of sins from others on top of the ones we do all on our own and it is no wonder why we recieve such a penalty. However, God ha s given us a gift and whoever accepts His gift does not have to pay the penalty and it's a gift that you do not have to pay back. That gift, Jesus Christ.
The more we understand about Jesus' death and resurrection the more we desire to walk in the newness of life with Christ. Paul explains what happens when we are baptised into Christ. "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." (6:3-11).
The new life of the believer is triumphant over death, when we accept Jesus into our lives and are baptised our sins are washed away and no more. We are dead to sin and a new life begins, one that lives with Jesus every step of the way.

Dear God,
I am strengthened and encouraged today as I realize that my old life is dead to You and that I have a new life, one that is filled with hope and freedom as You abide in me every second of the day. I am triumphant through You and no matter what I face I am safe and protected by You. In Jesus' name.......Amen.

Today we will read about Paul's desire to speak with the Christians in Rome; God is not a respector of Jew or Gentila; and righteousness through faith. Today's message focuses on the importance of true repentance. Regardless of where we come from we are all sinners and no one is exempt from the judgement that comes along with it. Genuine repentance is the only way to have a right relationship with God.
The book of Romans is the 6th book and also the first epistle (letter) of the New Testament and contains 16 chapters. The author of the book is Paul and it was written to the people in Rome. The purpose of the book is to present the meaning of the Gospel in relation to law, prophecy, and the universal need of man for justification by faith. What we are to learn is that the just shall live my faith alone.
Sin has cut off our relationship with God, we are indeed saved by the blood of Jesus, but it is genuine repentance that is fundamental to having that right relationship with Him. Paul speaks to the Romans and warned them about every sin that they need to be aware of, "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbite rs, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." (Romans 1:28-32). Sadly, today there are many who continue to commit some of theses sins, and some even say they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, but their lives show no evidence of genuine repentance.
The confession of one's personal sinfulness is the first step to all true repentance. The sincere believer never seeks to excuse himself or blame or compare himself with others but, sees himself like everyone else, a sinner. Paul reminded the people that regardless of who they were God is not a respector of persons and treats every person who sins the same way. "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified." (2:7-13).
There was only one person on the earth that was perfect and that was the Lord, Jesus Christ. Believer's may occasionally sin, but their repentance and calling on Jesus sets them free. There is a disturbing and growing ignorance of the Bible, the only Book which reveals sin for what it is, rebellion against God. He alone has the right to set the standard for righteousness and we as believers are to be examples of that righteousness. It is one thing to sin and not realize it, we do it everyday, but to do it knowingly only brings more judgement upon us. However, the good news is that God helps us, step by step, inch by inch, God transforms us into righteous beings, but it is only genuine repentance that brings forgiveness.

Dear God,
We pray for a sincere heart that is sensitive to Biblical truths as they apply to our lives. We invite You to arrange the circumstances of our lives that will keep us patiently looking to You and asking for Your divine guidance. We earnestly seek You for spiritual revival. A revival for those who claim to live for You, but are unyielded to the working of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Revive both the messenger and listener so that our lives are a demonstration of the reality of a vibrant walk with You. In Jesus' name.......Amen.

Today we will read about Paul going before religious rulers in Jerusalem; the Jews vowing to kill Paul; Paul being sent to Felix when they found no fault in him; Paul going before Festus; and Paul's appeal to Caesar. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we can not wait for a more convient time to listen to God and follow His commands, we must make that time now.
When the Apostle Paul arrived in Jerusalem, the religious leaders from Asia stirred up all the people with false accusations. In response, an angry mob seized Paul and tried to kill him, but he was rescued from their violence by Roman soldiers. He was then allowed to speak in his own defense to the Jews, but when Paul mentioned his commission by Jesus to go to the Gentiles, they immediately considered him a traitor to their religion and stopped at nothing to have him killed, (See Acts 21-22). "And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people." (Acts 23:1-5).
Whatever motive the Roman governor may have had when he summoned Paul to appear before him, he was aware of the intense hatred of some religious leaders who wanted Paul dead. But, it did not cause Paul to tremble or fail to witness for Christ, which was the very reason they had him arrested. Paul's purpose was not to defend himself or plead for his life, but to tell the good news that Christ died for sinners.
The Romans found no fault in Paul, but when the Sanhedrin authorities failed to convict Paul, the religious rebels decided to take the law into their own hands and murder him, "And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy. And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him. " (23:12-15).
Paul's nephew overheard their wicked plan to murder Paul and told the Roman captain, who then had Paul secretly transferred by night to Felix, the Roman governor of Judea residing at Caesarea. "And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him............And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly...............So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor." (23:16-17,20,22-24).
During his several years' confinement in Caesarea, Paul was tried before three powerful rulers of the Roman Empire who listened to what he had to say about his faith in Jesus Christ. Felix, this Roman judge, was summoned to preside in a matter which affected not only Paul but himself, he trembled at his words. "And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee." (24:24-25). It appears that, at that moment, the Holy Spirit may have convicted him to repent of all his sins, but he said go away and when the time is more convient I will call for you.
Whatever our good intentions are there is never a convenient time in which to accept Jesus into our lives. We can not believe in Him and then decide that when the time is right to say I will repent and accept Him into my life. Too many people have made the mistake of thinking that they have time only to realize when it is too late that they ran out of it. However, it is not too late for you now. Just be reading this message you have obeyed God by reading His Word, that is a huge step and one that God praises you for. When we take the time to put Him first great things will happen regardless of the circumstances we face currently.

Dear God,
There is no one or no thing that is worthy of our complete allegiance, but You, our Lord, who has the words of eternal life. Though others may refuse to listen or turn away from the message of salvation we choose to persevere. We persevere in trial and in victory, in the ups and downs and in the in-betweens of everyday circumstances. We seek to do Your will in all things so that we will be richly rewarded at the end of this life. In Jesus' name.......Amen.

Today we will read about Paul's mission to Macedonia and Greece; Eutychus waking from death; the message to the Ephesian elders; and Paul seized in the Temple. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that you are not alone when facing uncertainties. Jesus is your strength and will help you see the light through the darkness.
The Holy Spirit made it clear to the Apostle Paul that he was to go to Jerusalem, he headed in that direction even though the there was a possibility that he would be imprisoned and possibly die when he arrived. Along the way he passed through Macedonia, "And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.".........And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:1-3,22-24).
Fearing for his life, Paul's companions and other Christians who had assembled in Philip's house urged their beloved Apostle not to proceed to Jerusalem. "And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship." (20:36-38).
With a determination which resembled that of His Master, the Apostle Paul told his friends that death itself held no fear for him. "Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done." (21:13-14). It would naturally be expected for Paul to be sad and preoccupied with his misfortunes, but Paul's personal life was disregarded because of his love to please his Master. Regardless of the persecution he faced he did not back down because he knew that Jesus was with him.
The indwelling Holy Spirit will also strengthen us to withstand our trials and temptations just as He did for Paul, we have not been left alone, but are strengthen through Jesus. With the assurance of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, we can face life with certainty concerning our future. This enables us to enjoy a deep, inward peace that comes only from God alone. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13).

Dear God,
Pray for a sensitive heart that I might be a representative of Your indwelling Spirit to those who have distressing needs. Develop in me a discerning heart that I might seek out those in need. While I don’t have all the answers I do know that Your Word brings light, direction, and confidence as we must navigate through the frequent twists and turns in our journey here below. We offer ourselves to You to be a blessing to others and put our trust and faith in You to see us through all that is unknwn. In Jesus' name........Amen.

Today we will read about Paul at Thessalonica; the Jews opposing Paul's preaching; Paul and Silas in Berea; Paul on Mars Hill, Pauls at Corinth and Ephesus; Priscilla and Aquilla; and the silversmiths. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that all other literature whether Christian or secular, no matter how good, must take second place in our lives to the only God-inspired book in existence, the Bible.
As we read in the previous study, Paul and his coworker Silas were brutally beaten by a mob in Philippi and thrown into prison. However, through God's intervention, they were released the next day. Paul was no quitter and he never backed down from his belief's no mater what opposition he faced. "Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few." (Acts 17:1-4).
Still today many people knock doors spreading the Gospel, some believe and accept the truth while others will flat out tell you that they want no part in Jesus in their lives, those are the nice ones because some will yell and scream and even go as far as getting authorites involved instead of just saying no interested. It seems to me that those who are so dead against knowing the truth live in fear because they truly realize that they have no life after leaving this earth.
Now, when the unbelieving religious leaders became aware of these conversions, they were outraged and started a riot. "But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people." (17:5). Immediately afterwards, Paul left by night and traveled southwest to Berea. Upon arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few." (17:10-12).
Confessing Jesus as their Messiah was a monumental decision that would affect all aspects of their lives, family, friends, and even co-worker's or class-mates. Their dedication to the truth should encourage everyone, regardless of their religious up bringing, to study all the Scriptures with a sincere desire to know the Truth it reveals.
Our Creator has allotted each of us only one lifetime to prepare for our eternal destiny. We have a dual responsibility to become the person He wants us to be in order to accomplish the purposes for which He created us. Think how tragic it will be for those who fail to fulfill the will of God, wasting their few short years achieving material, social, and financial goals for self-gratification. God has provided one perfect Guidebook - His Word and that is the only guide we need to everlasting life.
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
You are the way to everlasting life and as I read Your Words help me to understand them and apply them to my daily life here on earth. Help me to know Your Will for me and to become the person You intend for me to be. Lord, Watch over me, guide me, and abide in me, give me the strength, wisdom and endurance to face all who oppose me and not to get offended by those who simply are ignorant to the truth. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Today we are reading about Peter's report to the Jerusalem church; the death of James; Peter's imprisonment and deliverance; the death of Herod; and Paul's first missionary journey. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that God answers prayer and no matter how long it takes we must not cease from it.
The Jerusalem church met early opposition by the Jewish religious leaders, but for the first time we read about the persecution James (the brother of John and son of Zebedee) faced from the ruling civil authorities in Judea. Herod the king, (the grandson of Herod, the Roman appointed king of Judea when Jesus was born) catered to the opinon of the public. The popular response at James execution  ;led Herod to seize Peter for execution also. "Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)" (Acts 12:1-3).
Sixteen guards had to answer with their lives for the safekeeping of this prisoner. No mob could force open the prison's massive gates. To judge by all outward appearance, Peter's fate was sealed. His friends had no money to offer for a ransom. No attorneys were hired and no plea bargain with Herod. All they could do was pray, so they prayed. "And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him." (12:4-5).
Here we see the power of prayer, in fact as the church was praying Peter came knocking at the gate. "And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying." (12:7-12).
Herod and Peter stand as examples of two distict types of people, the worldly people who are considered as rich, strong, and powerful, and the Christian people who are considered poor, weak, and a prisoner. We often judge by mere human circumstances, if one has social position, wealth, and great ability, we think he is equipped for success, but when one is the opposite we think he is incapable of seeing that success. We must realize that with God, nothing is impossible, but without Him , our brightest prospects are only delusive dreams.
Always remember, when God moves in behalf of His children, no obstacle is too great for Him. How easy it is for God to do what is impossible for man.

Dear God,
We praise You and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy and most especially the freedom to worship You. We know that there are many regions in our world where Christians are persecuted and suffer martyrdom at the hands of those who are enemies of the cross. We lift them up to You in prayer and ask that You will give them strength t o stand up for You in the face of evil surroundings and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel. May they never return evil for evil, but rather good for evil. Sustain those who have endured the painful loss of loved ones as well as those whose family members are being held captive and are presently enduring persecution. May You be glorified in the midst of these horribly adverse circumstances and may souls be saved for the kingdom. In Jesus name........Amen.

Today we will read about Stephen's speech and his death; Saul's persecution of Christians; Simon, the sorcerer; and Philip and the Ethiopian. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we are all Jesus' witnesses and are commanded to teach others the truth about Him.
Stephen was a deacon in the church at Jerusalem and he knew well the Old Testament Scriptures. He boldly reminded the unbelieving religious authorities of their faliure to follow the Holy Spirit. "Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." Acts 7:51-56 KJV).
With the same hatred which had caused the crucifixion of Christ, the angry authorities dragged Stephen out of the city, and stoned him. "Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep." (7:57-60). Stephen could have avoided death by saying nothing, but he made it clear that the religious authorities were responsible for crucifying Jesus.
Stephen's faith and forgiving attitude as he was facing death was the same as our Savior's when He was on the cross. Those who witnessed Stephen forgiving his murderers must have wondered how he could have shown love toward them, but it he was an example for them to follow. In the same spirit of love, we too need to pray for those who despitefully treat us. Those who seem to be our enemies like Saul today may someday be saved if we express the love of Christ to them as Stephen did to his persecutors.
There was great persecution against the church, but instead of discouraging believers, persecution resulted in a great missionary movement as Jesus' followers dispersed throughout the region. "And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word." (Acts 8:1-4).
Philip, who was also a deacon in the first church, was led by the Holy Spirit to meet an Ethiopian official on his way home. God led Philip to explain to the Ethiopian how the prophecy of Isaiah 53:7-8 had been fulfilled by Jesus of Nazareth. On learning that Jesus was the Messiah, the Ethiopian asked to be baptized. "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.........Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him." (8:26-29,35-38). What a powerful example of soul winning and just as Philip was commanded t o explain the Gospel we too are, thankfully we have the Holy Spirit within us to help us go to us who need us.
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
We ask that out of Your glorious riches that You might strengthen your children with power through Your Spirit in their inner beings, so that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith. We pray that they, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that they may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. In Jesus' name........Amen.

Today we will read about Peter, John, and Stephen's arrest; believers sharing their possessions; Ananias and Sapphira; and seven helpers. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that one may appear to be right with God in the sight of others, but God knows our true heart.
Loyalty to the Lord and love for one another spread through the first Church. "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need." (Acts 4:31-35). It was no doubt that this was great encouragemtent to the congregations as most of the Jews that confessed Jesus as the Messiah probably lost their jobs. There is no mention of anyone being required to sell his property or to share his wealth, but their willingness to place it befor the apostle's showed God they knew that their possessions were not there own, but gifts from God.
Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property; but, they gave only a part of the proceeds to the church while giving the impression they were giving everything just as others had done. "But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God." (5:1-4). The property was theirs to dispose of as they chose as all giving was voluntary, but the generous gift that was given to them was a lie.
Today there can be found an Ananias and Sapphira who outwardly embrace the Christian faith and unite with the Church; yet their lives are only an outward effort to please God with an inward desire to still satisfy self. The majority of their time and money is devoted to self and the world, and the Holy Spirit knows the difference.
God rightfully owns all that He created, but He only requires us to return to Him one-tenth of what He has entrusted to us, thereby acknowledging that we are only stewards of His property. Tithing is not an option we have, it is a debt we owe. We may not all have money to give, but we can give our time and share what we have to show God that He comes first above all things. We can give 10% of our time to Him each day to show Him that He comes first and we can also give 10% of our possessions as well. Luke said, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." (Luke 6:38)

Dear Lord,
Often the days converge into another and before we know it a year has passed. Help us to be keenly aware of each new day and the opportunity it holds for us to be engaged in our Father's business. We want to daily turn to Your holy Word for wisdom so that we will present to You a heart full of godly wisdom and a life fully surrendered to You. In Jesus name.....Amen.

Dear Lord,
I will never fully comprehend the depth of Your sacrificial death where we see man at his worst and God at His best. In my place You took my guilt and shame as You became the guilt offering pouring out Your life unto death and taking on my iniquity. You gave all so that I could be forgiven. Though my sins were as scarlet they were washed white as snow, cleansed by the saving blood of the sinless Lamb. You turned my hopeless condition into a life full of hope for this life and glorious anticipation for eternal life beyond the grave. Nothing in all of history will ever compare to the Divine Exchange where my sins were exchanged for Your pardon. I walk in newness of life and in the power of the resurrected Savior. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Today we will read about Jesus' crucifixion, burial, and resurrection; Jesus' appearing before His disciples; and Peter reaffirming his allegiance with Jesus. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that although we often fail we can can rejoice knowing that my the mercy and grace of Jesus we are sinless before God. His death, burial, and resurrection saved us all from the guilt and shame of sin.
It was the first day of the week after the death and burial of Jesus, Mary Magdalene arose and went to the sepulchre of Joseph of Arimathea that Jesus was placed in. "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him..........Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." (John 20:1-2,19-21). The Savior arose and with His Resurrection dawned a new and victorious day for the human race.
At first the people questioned Jesus as even His disciples had doubts that He was the Savior. "But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God." (20:24-28).
Like the disciples, many Christians become defeated because of some sin or being a doubter like Thomas, or they fear that Jesus may condemn instead of comfort, or fear that they may not be good enough, or fear what a hostile world will say or do. Such fears cause many to withdraw instead of draw closer to Him.
Christ knows our sorrows, our sufferings, and our fears. But, we can be certain that His grace is sufficient, regardless of circumstances. Without question, the Lord has a perfect plan and beyond our sorrows or failures, He has provided a glorious resurrection for all who will let Him be Lord of their lives. Just as Jesus forgave His disciples He also forgives us and will not leave nor forsake anyone that calls upon Him.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
You reign over all the earth and You also reign in my heart! What an awesome blessing this truth brings to me today. As I consider that it is not by my might, nor by my power but by the Spirit of the Lord of Hosts that my personal mountains are removed. Jesus, I know that many of the mountains I face are not just blown away by a simple prayer of faith, but these mountains are often the very essence of how You work through my life to reveal Your faithfulness and Your power in the midst of my struggles. You develop godly character as I am challenged to remain steadfast and faithful in my Christian walk. You make my feet like hind’s feet and You make me to walk upon high places. Help me to keep my gaze continually upward during the climb so that I see You reigning on Your throne as I bring You glory and honor! In Jesus' name.....Amen.

As we live by faith and not by sight we see much of what the world does not see because we see it through eyes of faith. By faith we see a risen Savior who died for us and who is now interceding on our behalf. By faith we believe that life’s trials will enable us to grow a closer relationship with You. By faith we come to Jesus and stay the course. For it is not the one who runs the swiftest nor the one who runs for a day, but the one who endures to the end that will survive. The struggles of this life diminish when we walk by faith and not by sight. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Today we will read about Jesus washing His disciples feet; Jesus foretelling His betrayal, death, and second coming; and the promise of the Holy Spirit. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that no matter what you are going through Jesus is with you to help you through it.
Eleven of the 12 apostles were convinced that Jesus was the Messiah. Along with the multitude, they too had joined in praising and worshipping Him as He arrived in Jerusalem. "On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord." (John 12:12-13).
Later, the disciples were fearful and troubled because Jesus foretold of His being betrayed by one of them. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake." (13:20-22).
Some of the most comforting words of Jesus were spoken at the very moment that the religious leaders were planning how to kill Him and He knew it. "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.......Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.......Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I." (14:1-4, 12-14, 27-28).
The disciples were probably very confused at the time, but today the picture is much clearer for us as we read the full story. However, like the disciples we occasionally are faced with fears of what tomorrow may bring. When we are facing finacial loss, divorce, disease, handicaps, death of loved ones, addictions, or other turmoil it can be easy to be confused and scared. However, we need to remember that the Lord knows how to take care of our tomorrows We too can have the utmost confidence in our Lord's comfort knowing that He is with us through it all. We must choose whether we will or will not allow our hearts to be troubled. Every disappointment offers an opportunity to overcome stress, fear, and depression, and to develop patience and faith in God.
We can be rest assured that no matter what we face we are not alone, we are comforted and protected by the all mighty Jesus who lives in us. "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples." (15:1-8).

Dear Lord,
As Your children we need to regularly examine our hearts to see if there are things, pursuits, or attitudes that are drawing us away from Your heart and thrusting us once again into the mindset of the world. Our heart’s examinations are not intended to condemn us but to refresh our spirit and remind us of our godly heritage. Father, since You know our hearts more than we do ourselves, reveal to us that which helps and that which hinders our Christian walk. As we walk in obedience to You we’re grateful for the peace and rest we receive in knowing that You do not condemn us but deliver mercy to help us in our time of need. You do not stand over us in judgment, but You walk alongside us assuring us of Your unwavering love and unending mercy that will see us through on this side of the journey. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Today we will read about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead; the Pharisees plotting to kill Jesus; Mary anointing Jesus' feet; Jesus triumphal entry; and Jesus answering the Greeks. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we need to wait for God. We are quick to want things done right away, but when we wait on Him we will see results.
Jesus got message that a dear friend of His was gravely ill, "Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was." (John 11:1-6).
As Jesus tarried where He was, the weary hours and long days of waiting were sorrowfully ended as Lazaru s died. Jesus headed back to Judaea. "Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep." (11:7-11).
Four days later, Jesus arrived and the sisters were overwhlemed with excitement of His arrival and grief over the loss of their brother. "Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. " (11:17-22).
In order to strengthen their faith that He was the Resurrection and the Life, Jesus had delayed His arrival until four days after Lazarus' death. "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." (11:25-27). It is only when we let go of our emotions and hand our lives over to God that we can truly be comforted and at peace. What a blessing it would be that our hearts might learn to truly trust and wait for Him.
Often, we expect to see results quickly and in our own image, however God has other plans. He knows what we need and patiently waits for the right moment in which to give it to us. Just as Martha put her trust in God that He would take care of everything we too need to do the same. Everything that happens is for a reason and although we may not understand it at the time God uses every situation for our good. Trust in Him and wait for Him to answer.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
We recognize that our endurance and persistence are attitudes derived from a faith-filled life with You. Our endurance is realized by continuing this race though others may drop out making us feel like we run alone. Our persistence is marked by our determination to finish the race though struggles weigh us down and doubts cloud our vision of the finish line. Thank You for marking the race out for us by showing us the great examples of those who cheer us on as we participate in this Christian race. They finished their race on earth through their enduring faith, though they experienced opposition from sinful men. We endure hardships and struggles as discipline from You, our loving Father, that we may share in Your holiness. We look forward to the harvest of righteousness and peace that comes as a result of our persistence in this spiritual marathon. Strengthen our feeble arms and weak knees as we repent of the sin that entangles us. We lay aside everything that drags us down or tempts us to give up. We persist in the name of Jesus Christ for the heavenly finish line. In your mighty name, Jesus.....Amen.

Bible Study: Our Good Shepherd

Today we will read about Jesus healing a man born blind; Jesus, the Good Shepherd; and the religious leaders desire to stone Jesus. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that Jesus is the answer and hope for all prayers. Jesus, Our Good Shepherd, is always with us and all prayers are answered according to His Will.
The Pool of Siloam was part of the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles, during the celebration water was poured out of the pool by the high priest in hopes of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The next day, violence once again erupted in the Temple and this time stones were hurled at Jesus, as He escaped the violence He passed a blind man not far from the Pool. "And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing." (John 9:1-7). This man's affliction became a means of manifesting Jesus as the Light of the world.
There is a spiritual purpose of God's love in much of human suffering, and this man's blindness was the very means of keeping him from being lost for eternity. By faith, he obeyed Jesus' command to wash in the Pool of Siloam and it was His faith that cured him of his blindness.
The same miracles still happen today to all who put thier faith in Jesus, always remember that whatever comes our way is God's Will and although people are born with infirmities they are not always caused by sin. God never places any situation before us that He knows we can not handle, He knows our strengths better than we do. What one person lacks in one thing has strengths in many others.
The religious authorities in Israel were considered the shepherds of Israel, but they were false, self-serving leaders. However, Jesus identified Himself as the Good Shepherd. "Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:7-11).
This prophecy was foretold by Ezekiel, "And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken it. And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods." (Ezekiel 34:23-25).
One of the distinguishing marks of a Christian is recognizing the need for guidance and desiring to follow the Good Shepherd. Jesus also said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one." (10:27-30). How comforting it is to be assured that we have Jesus the Good Shepherd caring for us and that not matter what we face He is right there with us.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
We who are children of the light, do not live as those who walk in the darkness. Instead You have shown us right from wrong, truth from error, and You have given us discernment to test the spirits to see that which is from You and that which is from the evil one. The foundations seem to be shaking as we are flooded with a tidal wave of twists and spins that seeks to confuse or demean the believer. We clothe ourselves daily with godly armor, both defensive and offensive weaponry since our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but rather the authorities from this world. May we not fluctuate, but walk boldly in the conviction and power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Today we will read about Jesus feeding 5,000; the Bread of Life, Jesus; the Feast of the Tabernacles; an adulteress forgiven by Jesus; Jesus, the Light of the World. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that until we feed off the Bread of Life we will never satisfy our hungry souls.
Jesus is not just a man who points the way to God's love, He is God, the Bread of Life that forever satisfies the hungry soul. Jesus was questioned by His disciples when He disappeared and did not eat with them. "And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 25-29).
The conversation continues, "They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." (John 6:30-35).
When we feed our physical bodies we are content for a short time, but soon after we are in need more to satisfy the hunger once again. Without that nourishment we would starve and not be much good for anything. The same thing happens when we are not regularly feeding off the Word of God. When we are not nourishing our souls we remain hungry and always searching for something to satisfy us. If you stop and think about the obesity rate of the world today you will find that the majority of the people are that way due to emotioanl eating. They are searching for something to comfort and satisfy them physically.
A great thing begins to happen when feed off of Jesus, we not only satisfy our hungry souls we also satisfy our physical needs as well. Of course we still need to nourish our physical bodies, but when the soul is satisfied the less we need to fill full physically.
Jesus walked into the Temple and began teaching, suddenly He was rudely interrupted by the scribes and Pharisees. "Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." (8:1-11).
They brought this woman to Jesus, not because they were shocked at her conduct or grieved that the Law of God had been broken, but to accuse Him of wrong doing. Had He said, let her go, they could accuse Him of compromising with sin and breaking the Mosaic Law. If He said, Stone her, He would break Roman law and be accountable to Rome. However, Jesus brought conviction to each one of the woman's accusers instead causing them to think about their own sins.
No matter what we have done in our lives, once we call upon the Lord Jesus we are saved and those sins are forgiven and forgotten. We can not be quick to accuse others of their sins unless we want to be convicted of our own. Believe me, once you remind someone of their sins you will also be reminded of your own. That is why it is important to not only ask God to forgive you of your own sins, but to forgive others for theirs because unless we forgive them God will not forgive us.

Dear Lord,
We who are children of the light, do not live as those who walk in the darkness. Keep our souls untainted by the changing rhetoric and sliding standards from our decadent society as we stand against the spiritual forces of evil. May we not fluctuate, but walk boldly in the conviction and power of the Holy Spirit today! In Jesus name.....Amen.

Bible Study: Satisfy The Soul

Today we will read about Jesus and the Samaritan woman; Jesus' miracles of healing; and Jesus answering the Jews questions. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that the only place of true satisfaction is in Christ. The things of the world are only temporal and always leaves us thirsty for more, but Jesus is the living water that that satisfies the soul.
As Jesus and His disciples made their way into Galilee they can through a city named Samaria. While the disciples went into the village to buy food Jesus sat down at Jacob's well. "When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour." (John 4:1-6).
All Samaritan's were despised by the Jews, which is why a woman who approached the well was quite surprised that Jesus asked her for a drink of water. "There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans." (4:7-9).
Jesus continued talking to her, showing her that He was not prejudice. "Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water." (4:10). It was no doubt that this woman was astonished by His words revealing Himself as the fulfillment of her great spiritual need, for she was thirsty for something that neither her religion nor the world could satisfy.
The person who continues drinking from the wells of temporal satisfactions will thirst again, they do not satisfy and they never can. The living presence of the Savior in the hearts of all who trust in Him continually satisfies the longings of the soul.
The sheep gate where lambs were bought for sacrifice was located at the northeast area of the Temple court in Jerusalem. It was believed that the first to enter the pool of water after an angel stirred up the water would be cured. Jesus approached this crowd of helpless sufferers, but no one recognized who He was. "Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had." (5:2-4).
In this crowd of helpless people was a certain man who could not walk, when this man expressed his hopelessness, Jesus looked beyond the man's physical problem and asked him to do something about it. "And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath." (5:5-9).
Like this man, anyone who has not trusted in Christ is spiritually helpless. We should be eternally grateful that Jesus did not pass us by, but asked us if we also wanted to be made whole. Jesus cares for the most helpless because He desires that all will recognize Him as Savior and Lord. The helpless includes popular athletes, intellectual leaders such as Nicodemus, pitiful prostitutes like the woman at the well, or any other lost person on the earth.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
How grateful we are for those who've gone before us showing us the way. They not only instructed us in the ways of the Lord but they lived exemplary lives so that we could see faith in action. We're grateful for their positive examples in our spiritual journey. We even pause to think of those who have taken a wrong direction only to turn away from all they held dear at one time. Would You remind us of the serious consequences of their sinful choices when we're tempted to do the same. We lift those people before You asking the Holy Spirit to convict and guide them back to the Way, the Truth and the Life. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Today we will read about the Diety of Christ; John the Baptist; Jesus, the Lamb of God; Jesus turning the water into wine; the cleansing of the Temple; and a man named Nicodemus. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that regardless of our suffering, sorrows, or tragedies we can be sure that all things work together for good to them that love God.
The book of John is the 4th book of the New Testament, the final book of the Gospels, and contains 21 chapters. The author of the book is John and it was written to All believers, whom John portrays Jesus as the Son of God. The purpose of the book is to convince the people that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God, and to lead men to everlasting life. What we are to learn from the book is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, the only source of salvation and way to everlasting life.
The Gospel of John introduces Jesus as the preexistent, Eternal Word who became one of us, because of this, the Holy Spirit led John to recognize Jesus as God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." (John 1:1-5).
John portrays Jesus as the Son of God, the Creator of all things and the Perfector of our lives, but He was also known as a Man of sorrows. "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not." (1:10-11). None of us escape sorrows during our lifetime, but, it is during our sorrows, that we are to follow in the footsteps of our Savior. "It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself." (II Timothy 2:11-13).
There was a man named, Nicodemus who was eager to speak with Jesus, he was a member of the Sanhedrin, the council which controlled the religious life of Israel. "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." (John 3:1-2).
Jesus and Nicodemus continue their conversation, "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (3:3-7).
To illustrate how essential it is to be born again, Jesus reminded him of when the Israelites, near the end of their 40 years of wilderness wandering, once again complained about their circumstances. "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." (3:11-15).
The instant we were born as babies we received the sinful nature which was inherited from Adam. However, when we accept Jesus and are born again into the family of God, we receive His divine nature. The one who is born again of the Holy Spirit now loves the things he once ignored, and hates the things he once desired.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
As I commit myself to You this day, I ask that You make me a glowing ember of Your truth, Your wisdom, and Your compassionate mercy. I want my light to shine for You so that all glory will be directed back to You, my source of light. If I find myself in the midst of a circle of employees engaged in ungodly conversation help me not to blend in. But rather help me to be the light of Your glory in my conversation, full of grace seasoned with salt, so that I will know how to respond to each person. I ask that You would reveal to me any false motivation for carrying out good deeds. Remind me that it is for Your glory that I do these things. It is neither for the praise of others nor for personal advancement, but the advancement of the Gospel. Lord, help me to reach just one today with an unexpected act of kindness that will direct the recipient’s thoughts toward my Father in heaven. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Today we will read about Jesus standing before Pilate and Herod; Jesus crucifixion and resurrection; the ministry of the risen Christ, His commission, and His ascension. Today's message focuses on the importance of holding on to Jesus even when we face the death of our loved ones.
"And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." (Luke 23:44-46).
When we consider how many struggles, hardships and temptations we face in our lifetime the weight of these difficulties could overwhelm us. Today I am aware some readers are grieving the death of a loved one. God of all Comfort, may you comfort them and give them peace based upon your promises. Remind them that it is in Your resurrection that we stand victorious in the end when we face our last enemy on this side. In Jesus' name.....Amen.
